Solution: Load the writing pane instantly and allow the users to start typing without any delay, but then keep loading MS Word components in the background for the next 2-3 seconds.

I use .txt files if I want to save quick notes on my hard drive, because MS Word take too long to load. MS Word takes on average 2-3 seconds to load, and by that time I have already created the .txt document, pasted my content (note), and already closed the .txt file. I use .txt files to save email copies to my HDD or s.o.’s contacts and Word is really not practical for that, since today’s users want instant gratification. My proposal would be that MS Word loads the writing pane instantly, allowing the users to start typing with zero seconds delay, but then keep loading all other components in the background for the next 2-3 seconds. This way the users could starts using the program instantly and it can keep loading unnoticeable in the background. Only in cases where the note is less than 3 seconds long, the user will experience some delay when closing the program as components may not have finished loading.
